We Put an Entertainment Menu on Every Table. Here Is Why.
August 12, 2026 · 6 min read

Ask most people what makes a restaurant memorable and they will describe a dish. Ask them what makes a night memorable and they will describe a moment. Those are two different things, and for a long time restaurants have only been built to deliver the first one.
When we opened Melting Borders Kitchen & Sips on East Montclair, we knew the food had to be excellent. That is table stakes in Springfield now. But we also wanted people to leave with something they could not get anywhere else in Missouri. So alongside the food menu and the drink menu, we put a third menu on every table: the entertainment menu.
What an entertainment menu actually is
It is a small card on your table with a QR code. You point your phone at it, answer a handful of short questions, and then you go back to your meal. Behind the scenes, our team builds something personal for your table. Before dessert, it arrives.
There is no app to download. No account to create. No sign-up wall. If you can take a photo with your phone, you can use the entertainment menu.
The first experience: A Song for Your Date
The one that is live right now is called A Song for Your Date. You scan the code, and we ask you a few questions about the person sitting across from you. Their name. How the two of you met. One word that describes them. Your favorite memory together so far. What kind of vibe you want the song to have.
Twenty to thirty minutes later, a server walks to your table carrying a small radio. They set it down. They press play. And an original song about the two of you starts playing out loud at your table. Your names. Your story. Your beach trip. Your inside joke.
We have watched people put a hand over their mouth. We have watched people cry. We have watched a table go completely silent because they realized what was happening.
No two songs are the same, because no two tables are. That is the whole point.
Why a restaurant, and why Springfield
Restaurants have always been where the important things happen. First dates. Proposals. Anniversaries. The dinner after the graduation. People do not gather in living rooms the way they used to, but they still gather around tables.
Springfield, Missouri is a city that shows up for the places it believes in. We have felt that from the day we opened. The entertainment menu is our way of giving something back that is worth showing up for.
What is coming next
A Song for Your Date is the first of a much longer lineup. Here is a preview of what we are rolling out:
- Portrait Moments — a stylized portrait keepsake from a photo of your table.
- The Argument Settler — an AI judge hears both sides of your table debate and rules. Loser buys dessert.
- The Table Time Capsule — record a toast tonight, get it back one year from today.
- The Proposal Concierge — we plan the whole thing, timed to the second, with a staff cue sheet.
- Dish DNA — scan your coaster for the 45-second origin story of the exact dish you ordered.
- The Kids' Table Illustrator — kids describe a dream dish and take home an illustrated poster with their name on it.
You can see the full lineup on our entertainment page. New experiences go live regularly, and every one of them is included with your table.
